Korba: Generation at NTPC Korba is being restored in a phased manner following the simultaneous tripping of all seven generating units at the 2,600-MW power station on Friday evening due to an electrical fault during testing of a Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) bay breaker.

Two 500-MW units (Units 4 and 5) and one 200-MW unit (Unit 1) were restored within 12 hours of the outage, while another 200-MW unit (Unit 3) was restored within 36 hours.

The remaining two units — 500-MW Unit 7 and 200-MW Unit 2 — were also restored on Sunday at 9:20 pm and 8:40 pm, respectively.

Meanwhile, 500-MW Unit 6 has been under shutdown for biennial planned overhaul since August 25, 2026. The unit is expected to be brought back to the grid by the end of this month.

With six units now restored, NTPC Korba has substantially resumed its generation capacity after the disruption. The station comprises four 500-MW units and three 200-MW units, with a total installed capacity of 2,600 MW.
